CBSE to conduct Problem Solving Assessment test for all class XI students

Reportedly Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct a special test CBSE-PSA for class XI students to test analytical skills and comprehension of written texts in January 2013. The test is compulsory for all students and students will get a special certificate by CBSE.

CBSE-PSA format – Total Marks: 90
There 
will be 60 items in a MCQ format. There will be no specific syllabus for CBSE-PSA and no separate class will be taken by schools to prepare students.
The test will evaluate three areas: (i) quantitative reasoning, (ii) qualitative reasoning and (iii) language conventions.

In a letter to schools, board chairman Vineet Joshi said that ‘research and analytical skills, ability to apply basic concepts of different subjects, solve application based problems in Mathematics and Science, comprehend and analyze written texts and effective communication are the skills which ensure success in higher studies and professional areas’.

CBSE-PSA will be designed in such a way that it will improve generic and higher order thinking skills. The board believes that the test will help students improve scores in core school subjects. Registration for the CBSE-PSA will be done by the board
