IIT Kharagpur rejects new JEE, might join IIT Kanpur for a seperate entrance test

Earlier after writing a letter to Director IIT Kharagpur, complaining that IIT Kharagpur administration has created a false impression that faculty supports the new common entrance, IIT faculty has rejected the implementation of new JEE for admission into UG programmes for the institute, the faculty has reportedly backed IIT Kanpur in conducting a separate entrance test instead of new common entrance examination.

“The new two-tier format of JEE is a retrogade step and reverses the continuous churning within the IIT system to improve the admission provess, the hurried implementation of the JEE from 2013 , against all academic advice is done with the sole aim of hogging limelight for reforms credit..,IITs have become what they are because they have been allowed to function independently, and set appropriate standards in carrying out their academic responsibilities. The IIT Council proposal, if implemented, will seriously compromise the autonomy so essential for IITs to remain what they are” Said IIT Kharagpur faculty in a statement.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, still maintatined that the council that took the decision to implement the new common entrance consists of IITs, IIITs and NITs and that there was not a single dissent and the JEE was unanimously adopted, therefore he went forward.
